Researchers Discover 50000000-carat Diamond Inside the Earth
Jakarta, NNC – Scientists have just discovered a hoard of diamonds, very precious that it will destroy the world’s economy. Scientists consider there is a ton of diamonds buried in the ‘cratonic roots’ in four continents.
There is only one small catch: the treasure is buried 100 miles down, deeper than any drill has ever penetrated, according to MIT researchers.
The cratonic root is the most ancient part of the rock under the tectonic states, shaped like an upside-down mountain. Researchers estimate that the roots may have 1-2 percent diamond, which means that about one quadrillion tons of diamonds are buried there.
Given that a ton of diamonds is 50,000,000 carats, each carat is worth 3,000 pounds at least, which comes out a hefty 150,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 pounds by a relatively unscientific calculations.
“This shows that diamond is not perhaps this exotic mineral, but on the (geological) scale of things, its relatively common,” says Ulrich Faul, a research scientist in MIT’s Department f Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Scienes, according to novinite.
“We can’t get them, but still, there is much more diamonds there than we ever thought before.”
Researchers conclude that there were diamonds down there because of an anomaly in seismic data – where sound waves appear to accelerate.
Faul and his associates counted that the anomaly could be prompted by 1 – 2 percent of diamonds in the ‘cratonic roots.’
“Diamonds in many ways is special. One of its special properties is, the sound velocity in diamond is more than twice as fast as in the dominant mineral in upper mantle rocks, olivine.”
