Flash flood warning for Kauai and Niihau expires
HONOLULUÂ – The flash flood warning for Kauai and Niihau expired Saturday afternoon while Kuhio Highway near the Hanalei Bridge remains restricted due to flooding.
Unstable conditions brought torrential rain to Kauai on Saturday, causing landslides on Kuhio Highway in Hanalei.
State Department of Transportation crews have since cleared the landslide, but the highway remains open to only one lane of alternating traffic.
The National Weather Service in Honolulu said at 9:50 a.m. radar showed heavy showers persisting near Hanalei and over the interior mountains of the Garden Isle. Some of the showers were falling at a rate of 3 inches per hour, and streams were rapidly rising.
The rain is part of the same system that bought flooding to parts of Oahu on Friday.
