A major problem that we are being faced with daily is climate change. Climate change can be described as the current problems the Earth is facing like the overuse of fossil fuels and the drought that we have been in since 2011.Think about this, when your drinking water, what do you drink it out of? A bottle maybe, or a container from home. Did you know that in a year 50 billion plastic bottles are sold and only 23 percent of these water bottles are being recycled. This means that 38 billion plastic bottles are just wasted.The waste of plastic has become so bad that by 2050 researchers say the ocean will be more plastic than fish if we continue at this rate. This is considered plastic pollution a problem that is affecting our climate change. We need to reduce and stop using plastic because it is effecting are ecosystem and planet in a negative way. Ways we can begin this process is stop using the most common plastic, such as forks and straws. Another way is start recycling more. Lastly eliminate the unnecessary plastic products from daily use.

When your at a kids party how much plastic do you see around? You usually have the utensils which includes forks,spoons, knives.Then you have the cups and the serving trays with all the food. All these are just the basic things you might see at a party, but plastic is everywhere and we don’t really pay attention to it because we are unaware of what the real harm is. In 2016, we began the movement to ban plastic bags at local stores because we were becoming aware of the problem. Just recently many restaurants have started not giving out plastic straws.A major company, Starbucks has began to stop giving out straws automatically in Alaska and you now have to ask for a straw if you want one. Now that places like this are beginning to think about the act of automatically giving a straw, it also makes you think about what you are doing as the consumer as well.

Recycling something that many don’t think of doing. Recycling is the easiest form if taking an action to reduce the plastic pollution changing our climate.If we were to recycle our plastic bottles, manufacturers could reuse the material for another water bottle just like one you have now. About 90 percent of are plastic products have not been recycled.Recycling can not only help reduce the problem of plastic pollution in many of our oceans, but it reduced the need for extracting and refining raw materials. With recycling we are helping benefit the Earth in beneficial way even though plastic takes a while to break down. If we recycle and dispose of plastic the responsible way we can stop harming animals and the Earth. Many ocean animals suffer because of the wrong that we do by littering into our oceans without thinking of the consequences. Recycle so that the poor animals in the ocean don’t have to suffer our mistakes of plastic pollution.

Now recycling alone is not going to stop the plastic pollution, but other ways are. If everyone reduces the plastic it will help. We can begin to make people more aware, even if you are a young kid it doesn’t matter, the thing that matters is that you are trying to stand up and stop it. In a article I read in class called “How to Fight the Global Plastic Problem” written by Prince Shakur, he talked about two young girls who went to an airport to tell and inform people to stop using plastic bags at stores and begin using reusable bags. For the utensils you can ask for metal utensils instead of using the plastic one that are very harmful. The straws as well you can use paper or if you don’t like your straw breaking down in your drink metal straws that are reusable. There is always a new and effective way to help the environment no matter what it is.

Plastic is something that for so long we have taken for granted, we use it like its not doing or even causing any problems. However plastic is causing a major problem. The problem is climate change and this problem needs to be fixed. We can fix it if we try. Plastic pollution on its own is a problem and is not the only thing that we need to fix to help the climate change problem.However reducing the plastic pollution can affect the climate change. Thinking about your actions, and taking action on them is a big way that we can help. So, buy a new metal straw, and metal water bottle. Use the reusable bags when you go to the store and the biggest one recycle. Recycling is the easiest form of helping so think before you just toss the plastic in the trash. Reduce the plastic pollution and help the problem we are facing.
