Our Culture Calendar For 2018

This month, explore fitness-related comedy shows, wellness talks, and more.

Being up to date on all things health and wellness is social and cultural currency these days, which is why we started the Furthermore book club. Now, we’re introducing an events calendar to help high performers stay on top of the best new lecture series, art exhibitions, films, and more. Here, our picks for this month.

CHECK OUT THE NEW HU HOLI COLLECTION FROM ADIDAS AND PHARRELL WILLIAMS.

The sportswear giant and singer-producer will reveal a colorful line of athletic wear and shoes—including a remake of the Stan Smith—inspired by Holi, India’s festival of colors. The livestream event will take place at Holi Fest in Jaipur, India on March 2 and the collection will be released on March 16.

WATCH CHARLES BARKLEY HOST SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE.

While SNL cast member Kenan Thompson does a solid impersonation, there’s only one Sir Charles. On March 3, the outspoken NBA Hall of Famer and Inside the NBA analyst is set to make his fourth stint as a SNL host. If previous appearances are any indication, expect memorable roles like Chuck’s stone-faced rendition of Shaquille O’Neal.

TUNE INTO WHAT THE FIT.

Comedian Kevin Hart has already proven he’s the fastest man on earth (by a technicality). Now, he’s putting his athletic prowess to work in a new weekly comedy fitness series for his Laugh Out Loud Network channel on YouTube. Quirky challenges—and the celebrity guests signed up to take them on—include sumo wrestling with Conan O’Brien and beer yoga with Chance the Rapper. The 15-episode show kicks off on March 8.

LISTEN IN ON A CONVERSATION WITH MARION NESTLE AND ALICE WATERS.

Arguably two of the most eminent thought leaders on food politics today—Marion Nestle, author and professor emeritus at New York University and Alice Waters, owner of Chez Panisse and founder of the Edible Schoolyard Project—will convene for an elucidating discussion on the current state of our food system. The special lecture on March 19 is part of the 75th Anniversary UC Berkeley School of Public Health Dean’s Speaker Series.

SEE THE EXHIBIT “LIKE LIFE: SCULPTURE, COLOR, AND THE BODY”.

Seven hundred years of sculptural takes on the human body will be on display at The Met Breuer in New York City. In this groundbreaking exhibition (running from March 21 to July 22), expect to see pieces from Italian Renaissance sculptor Donatello as well as those of American contemporary artist Jeff Koons.

VIEW THE MOVIE LEAN ON PETE.

From filmmaker Andrew Haigh (Weekend, 45 Years), and starring Chloë Sevigny, Steve Buscemi, and emerging actor Charlie Plummer, comes the story of a 15-year-old boy who runs away with an aging racehorse after he learns it’s destined for the slaughterhouse. What results is a meditation on love, loneliness, and belonging, shown through the duo’s roving odyssey through the new American heartland. Find it in theaters on March 30.
